The european VOICE project acts on this premise and aims to prioritise the voices of those who have been affected by sexual violence, abuse and exploitation in sport. One of them is Gloria Viseras. The former Gymnast competed for Spain in the 1980s Olympics in Moskau.
Viseras says, that she has been sexually abused by her coach. Other athletes supported her. The coach denies all accusations. In Spain a lawsuit is ongoing in this case.

Gloria Viseras says, that in telling her story she is trying to help other survivors and to focus the attention of parents, and all people in sport settings on the issue of sexual violence in sport and to prevent kids.

Sexual abuse of boys
Mike Hartill is Senior Lecturer at Edgehill University in the UK. He is sociologist and one of the researchers in the Voice project.
He says, the project wants to provide a platform for those affected by sexual violence to speak out (anonymous if wanted) in a protected atmosphere and to get in touch with other survivors. The project is supported by Organisations with experience in that issue and they will care for the people telling her story to the researchers.

Mikes’ research is focusing on sexual abuse of boys in sports and the masculinism in that setting which makes it impossible for boys to speak out if they had become a victim of abuse. Because boys in sport are trained to be the aggressor on certainly not the victim.
